International Women’s Day

March 8^th, worldwide, we take a day to celebrate the achievements of successful women.  Business leaders, entrepreneurs, politicians, authors executives all deserve accolades. 

The 2026 theme is “Give to Gain”

It’s an occasion when we can honour all women who have ‘made it’. 

But what about the women who are facing other challenges. The ones who are in unspeakable conditions, violence, abuse, duress.  Where they have lost their voice.  Often are afraid for themselves and their children.  They are trapped.  Those women who need to escape and finally find the courage to leave yet have nowhere to go.

One night, I too, was one of those women. Thankfully, I had a place where I could take refuge.  I am truly grateful for that. 

I think of the women with no place to go.  The mothers who didn’t have time to plan, who had to run out in the middle of the night with nothing.  No clothes, no money, no gas, no food.  I think of them often. Considering this year’s theme “GIVE TO GAIN”, it is an opportunity to Give to your local women’s shelter or women’s resources.

The power of women strengthening and improving the life of someone in crisis can be transformative to that person.

I urge you to keep those women in mind next time you clean out your closet.  Donate what you can, anytime you can. 

Let’s amplify and expand the theme of GIVE TO GAIN, for the 2026 IWD.
